  • Drape, large fenestrated
  • Syringe, 20mL
  • Syringe, 10mL
  • Syringe, 5mL
  • Needle for drawing up
  • Needle for injecting local (25G)
  • Scalpel, 11 blade
  • Gauze squares, 10cm x 10cm (x5-10)

CVC kit

  • Central line (4- or 5-lumen)
  • Insertion needle
  • Guidewire
  • Scalpel (11-blade)
  • Dilator(s)

Suture & Securement

  • Needle holder
  • Scissors
  • Forceps
  • Suture, 1-0 or 2-0
  • CVC dressing

Other Equipment

  • Sterile ultrasound probe cover
  • Sterile ultrasound gel (if not already in the probe cover)
  • Needle-free injection ports x4-5 (aka Posi-flow, Bionector, etc)

Drugs

  • Chlorhexidine 2% skin prep
  • 0.9% Sodium Chloride ampoules, 20mL
  • Lidocaine (1% or 2%) if patient awake (no adrenaline)

Post-Procedure

  • Wire confirmed out
  • Clean, tidy, sutured, dressed, flushed
  • Transduced venous
  • CXR for position

Notes

  • Ultrasound guidance is mandatory under all modern society guidelines.
  • Maintain strict surgical sterility at all times.
  • Be alert for complications (arterial puncture, pneumothorax, malposition)
  • Never lose track of the guidewire.
